Can Tieu Hy Wins International Manga Award
Saigon-based comic artist takes silver
A popular Vietnamese comic artist has taken out a silver award at the 10th Japan International Manga Awards, an initiative of the Japanese foreign ministry to promote Japan’s comic culture around the world. Chosen out of nearly 300 international submissions from 55 countries, Hy won for her work on Gateway to Underworld, the story of a girl who is suddenly taken to the underworld, where she embarks on a search for the reason behind her death, and a way back to life.
Led by famed Japanese manga artist Machiko Satonaka, the jury awarded the top prize to French duo Joël Parnotte and Xavier Dorison, for their work, The Master of Arms. Hy will attend the awards ceremony in Tokyo on February 7.
