Fashion photographer Bobby Nguyen wants to inspire us
One of the most renowned and successful fashion photographers in Vietnam, Bobby Nguyen (@bobby0nguyen) has been posting on Instagram since 2013, attracting a loyal following for his mix of professional and intimate posts. Like much of his work, the shots on Bobby’s page tell a story; they are captive moments of his life and work that include glamourous fashion shoots as well as interesting architecture from his global travels.
Speaking to AnyArena, Bobby says that his aim is to inspire people in the same way he himself has been inspired by so many other artists on Instagram. Read our interview with the photographer and check out some his posts below:
When did it all start with photography?
In 2008, I had a chance to work with Đẹp magazine. This is the first time I was really in touch with professional photography.
How has the way you photograph changed through time?
To me, photography is the way we see life through a lens, so naturally my photographs have changed throughout my career. Gradually I have shifted my focus toward the depth and content of the photograph, rather than caring about what kind of camera I’m using.
Describe your work in 3 words
Sensorial, innovative, captivating.
Why did you start using Instagram? What was your inspiration?
I started using Instagram in 2013. I love it because users really care about each of the photos they’re posting. A community of photographers also use Instagram to share their amazing work, and I was really inspired by that. I decided I wanted to inspire others with my work as well.
How much planning goes into a post?
I genuinely don’t use social media very often, so I never plan my Instagram posts. I only upload a picture when I feel that it has some emotion and could be interesting to other people.
Which editing program(s) or apps do you use?
I only use Photoshop.
What makes a great Instagram feed in your opinion?
To me, a great Instagram feed has to be able to inspire a lot of people.
How can people take good photos with a smartphone?
Just think of it as a professional camera before you shoot.
What do you hope viewers get from your work?
I want people to be able to feel the unique moments and spiritual value that I have tried to capture in the people and the world around me.
Who do you follow on Instagram?
Apart from my friends and family, I follow a lot of Instagram accounts with very distinctive styles. It would take a long time for me to list all of them, but if you’re interested, follow me and get to know what I like.
