Jimmy Fallon Parodies La La Land at The Globes
Host Receives Mixed Reviews After Initial Teleprompter Fail
Musical La La Land has won 7 Golden Globes at this years ceremony in Los Angeles. Celebrating the best in film and television, and awarded by the Hollywood Foreign Press, the musical starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone took out several of the major categories including Best Actor & Actress in a Musical or Comedy for it’s leading man and woman, Best Director and Best Screenplay for Damien Chazelle and Best Original Score.
Clearly it was the flavour of the night, inspiring host Jimmy Fallon to dedicate his opening sequence to parodying the heavily choreographed opening of the film. Featuring an all-star list of cameo’s from the likes of Millie Bobby Brown and her ‘Stranger Things’ castmates, John Travolta, Nicole Kidman, Tina Fey, Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake, Jimmy sung, ‘danced’ and cheezed his way through the musical spoof. Afterward his teleprompter failed and he was forced to improvise the first minute of his monologue - slightly awks - but recovered to deliver the usual tongue-in cheek barbs about some of the celebrities present, some impressions and a couple about incoming president Donald Trump. The twittersphere labelled it weak after the last few years in which Ricky Gervais and then Tina Fey and Amy Poehler didn’t hold back, but we thought it was fun.
