‘The Way Station’ Takes Out Top 3 Awards At ASEAN Int’l Film Fest
Vietnamese film scoops Best Film, Best Actor and Best Cinematography
We told you it was one to watch. From a highly competitive field of 109 films from around the region, director Pham Hong Anh’s ‘Dao Cua Dan Ngu Cu’ (The Way Station) has taken out three of the most prestigious awards at this years ASEAN International Film Festival in Malaysia; Best Film, Best Actor and Best Cinematography. Idol singer Pham Hong Phuoc took out the Best Actor award for his leading role in the emotional drama, Ly Thai Dung took out Best Cinematography and debut director Pham Hong Anh was overjoyed for the film to have also won Best Film.
“It was my first movie so I was worried”, she said at the airport upon her return to Saigon yesterday, “however the organizers must have understood the film as it was the last name to be called for Best Film. I haven’t slept since yesterday. This is a feeling I will keep with me for a long time.”
The award should now free her up to pursue more projects in an industry that has been heavily dominated by men in Vietnam, which we think is amazing. The film was also nominated in five other categories, including for Ngoc Thanh Tam for Best Actress. The Way Station is set to hit screens in Vietnam this Autumn.
