WATCH: A FIRST LOOK AT “KONG: SKULL ISLAND”
The new trailer is a megadose of pyrotechnics and warfare
We don’t belong here. On top of the ominous message, the blaring sounds of sirens telltale that the latest iteration of the King Kong storyline won’t be for the faint of heart. Unveiled this past weekend at San Diego’s annual Comic-Con event, the new film traces the origins of the legendary ape through the vantage point of an ill-fated team of explorers who stumble upon the lair of the beast on a surveying expedition for NASA in the 1970s.
In February, the all-star cast including Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and John Goodbman touched down in Hanoi to film segments for the new reboot. In an era dominated by CG, the new Kong film strictly relies on the otherworldly settings of Vietnam, Hawaii, and Australia to create the nominal Skull Island. The recently made public Son Doong Caves are just one of the extraterrestrial Vietnamese locales that will make an appearance in the monster blockbuster to be released early spring of 2017.
