Quality of sound

When I was back in Holland during Christmas, I had free time to watch television again. It was freezing outside so it was nice and warm inside; time to make a cup of tea, eat a cookie and cover myself into blankets and watch a good TV show.

What I especially enjoyed was the sound quality. Vietnamese TV channels broadcast sound in mono quality. The sound is of such a low quality that it is hard for me to listen to it. This is  because the music is very distorted and therefore the songs sound very different from the actual songs. Take for example Idols. I was at the show when Thanh Bui sang U&I and the sound there was great. After his performance Thanh Bui and I went backstage and we looked at the footage. The picture and sound looked awesome. A few days later this was broadcasted on TV and the picture and sound was terrible. This takes away so much of the fun and experience that It spoils my watching experience a lot.

So, when I was back in Holland and watched some TV again, I was amazed by the quality. I kinda forgot how good it can be. Everything is broadcasted in HD and the sound is just awesome. Most programs have surround sound and it is just a whole new way of experiencing entertainment and media. There is nothing more frustrating for a music composer to hear your song over the TV speakers in Vietnam and the whole song sounds like crap because it is all mono and distorted. You just want to give the best to the listeners and want them to hear and experience the song the way it was composed.

Hopefully, the Vietnamese broadcasting in Vietnam will take a leap towards HD television soon. Only then, the TV programs, movies and music will be broadcasted like it is meant to be. Bye bye.

A Cock-tail

Here you go, my first English Only album in Vietnam. About 1.5 year ago, Ha Anh Tuan called me and asked if I wanted to make an English Only album with him. I said ok but I told him that we needed a couple of Vietnamese tracks on there as well because I assumed that the Vietnamese wouldn’t like an album which has only English songs on it.

The idea of the album was to create a story of a bartender; A simple guy who works in a bar and meets female customers, falls in love, wants to party, his heart gets broken, etc. It is fun to write in a certain story because it gives you a clear guideline for writing the lyrics.

The album has been released on Christmas day and the responses to this album are great! It was a big risk but I am glad that people like it. This means that the Vietnamese audience is ready to accept English Only albums which opens some doors for the Vietnamese music industry.

I love the fact that Ha Anh Tuan used a cock on his album cover. He wanted to play around with the word cocktail because the bartender makes a lot of cocktails which have different flavors etc. He was very open to different music styles and what is funny is that all the colors and flavors stand for the different music styles on the album.

For me the cock is extra nice because the Early Risers logo is also a cock :)

When you have a chance, grab a cock-tail and enjoy the music!

Lang Song Xanh Award

It’s always fun to win an award. I feel very fortunate to be among the 10 best music producers of Vietnam. When I went to the annual award show of Lang Song Xanh I didn’t know that I had won something, so I was very surprised to hear my name during the award announcement.

It felt good to stand next to 9 other very talented music producers of Vietnam. I exchanged numbers with some of them and I am sure I will do some co-writing with some of them in the near future.

More good news is the price for the best newcomer for Thao Trang. We worked so hard on her album, her image, and the music video’s, so after all the hard work we are very happy with this price.

Thank you Lang Song Xanh for giving us the awards and we hope to see you again next year!

Cheers

This year was a great year for me. Not only did I start my own company with a bunch of friends, I have also grown so much as a person due to the fact that I had to learn a lot of new things in order to run a music label on my own. I had to get used to it but liked it very much because I had all the freedom to do whatever I wanted and do it the way I wanted it.

So, it all started with building the music studio that I always dreamed of. First we had to search for a good house to build the production house of Early Risers Media Group in. We saw many houses in District 1, 2 and 3. Finally we found a great house in District 1.

Then it was time to build the entire studio inside the house. Building this little house inside the big house took about 2 months. Then the best part came: Ordering all the equipment. I wanted to buy the best equipment so I asked my friends from Singapore at Funkie Monkie studio what was the most professional equipment to buy and how I had to configure everything in the best way. I ended up with buying almost the same equipment as the son of Jackie Chan, Jaycee Chan has.

I had to hook up all the equipment and learn how all these new toys work. Technology develops so fast, so most things of these up to date equipment are pretty new to me as well.

Now the studio is finished and it is really great to work here. Because I spend around more than 10 hours a day in here, everything has to be perfect and make me feel comfortable enough to produce music and of course make the artists feel most comfortable as well when they walk in and work.

It’s my second home now and I love it :)

Cheers

Ok, a very sensitive subject right now. Home violence and abuse is unfortunately pretty widespread in Vietnam. Why? Because it is accepted in most places in Vietnam and its normal that the man is the boss in house and can get away with a lot of bull-crap. Time for change because this doesn’t fits modern society any longer!

So many times I heard female friends complain that they had a fight at home and things ended with them getting beaten, abused or yelled at. As a person from outside Vietnam that sounds very disturbing, but strangely enough, woman just accept it as it is normal.

That is why Flaunt teamed up with Music Faces to organize a series of tours to create more awareness about this problem. The tour is called Soul Nation and wants to raise awareness for equal rights and mutual respect in a relationship.

Early Risers singer Kathy Uyen and Music Faces rockstar Pham Anh Khoa are both the goodwill ambassadors of this campaign and with their nation wide tour that involves other stars like Suboi, Rapsoul, Anh Khang, White Noise, Thao Trang, Ha Okio and many more, they will try to reach the young generation with their message.

That is also why Kathy Uyen and I made a song about how a man should treat a woman. Here is the very first single of Kathy Uyen, written by herself and the music by me. :)

And here is a short video of the event in Thu Duc last Friday. 3000 students came to support the show and it was a great success.

See yaaa!
