Adidas Release Limited Run Of Life Aquatic Kicks
One Hundred Pairs of The Rom ‘Zissou’ Become Instant Collectors Items
Director Wes Anderson’s ‘The Life Aquatic’ is iconic, from Seu Jorge singing from the David Bowie songbook to Sigur Ros soundtracking a meeting with a Jaguar shark. The film is a tribute to adventurer and oceanographer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, and candy-coats darker themes of faded celebrity, old loves, and loss.
The director is well-known for filling every frame of his films with indelible detail. In fact, Anderson was inspired to make the film after seeing an image of a boat sliced down the middle to reveal its mechanics. That boat became the Belafonte where most of the film’s plot plays out.
The same attention to detail applies to the clothes worn by Bill Murray (as Steve Zissou), Owen Wilson (as former Kentucky airline pilot Ned Plimpton) and the other crew and cast. Most memorable, beside the orange beanie hats, are the adidas kicks they wear.
Finally adidas have launched a version of the famed footwear. They look like they’re straight out of the film, with white uppers, laces in yellow, blue heels and the three-strips in two-tone. There’s even the name ‘Zissou’ across the side in gold embroidery.
Sadly, only a hundred pairs have been made. And these instant collectors items have sold out at the ‘We Love Green Festival’, in Paris (where Seu Jorge played a set).
There’s no news yet on an upcoming roll-out. But we can hope.
