Boy George X A$AP Rocky for Dior Homme
80s icon teams up with Willy Vanderperre for new campaign
If you’re old enough to remember the Culture Club lead singer (and Britain’s poster boy for androgyny) then you’re older than most of us - sorry. Latterly more famous for DJ’ing, writing songs for other people and being a reality television celebrity, Dior’s creative director Kris Van Assche wanted to parlay George’s ‘icon’ status for this campaign.
“Boy George, when I was a kid, was one of the first to have this message about difference being okay; he was such a major influence on my generation,” Van Assche said. “That idea of freedom and being a rebel – which he still is – is really something that has stayed with me.”
Teaming him up with current Dior regular A$AP Rocky, along with actor Rami Malek (from TV series Mr. Robot) the unusual trio, plus male model du jour Ernest Klimko were photographed by living legend Willy Vandeperre.
“I really tried to translate what I think Dior Homme is right now,” said Van Assche of the shoot. “It’s about music, it’s about cinema, it’s about fashion…It’s about a certain memory I have of the 80s that remains very much relevant for 2017.”
