Gucci Get Some Asian Edge With Suboi and Kelbin’s Harper’s Bazaar Shoot
Vietnamese rapper and stylist on the streets of Taipei
Back in May, Saigon rap star Suboi and stylist Kelbin Lei took a quick trip to Taiwan to check the Gucci presents A Magazine Curated by Alessandro Michele show. Not content to just hang out for a few days, the two also took a few all-Gucci-everything photos with photographer Micky Wong.
Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele has turned the iconic label into a ‘millennial-flavored mix of gender-bending, diversity, and dizzying pop-cultural references’ according to i-D magazine. And he’s been into Asian street culture for a minute now. So Suboi and Kelbin were among a coterie of edgy Asian stars attending the event in Taipei.
They repaid the invite with their ‘Street Cred’ shoot. Suboi brings back the bum-bag, a kitschy black GG-clasped Marmont belt, while Kelbin rocks a ‘Loved’ knuckle ring and some other extravagant Gucci items like his Queercore buckled bee-backed boots. And in case you’re wondering who the other two girls are in the shoot, they’re real-life twins Cherrie Mun and Evanheline Yan – digital influencers, models and stylists, and fashion buyers. They also co-host the fashion website Duo Gigs, a style-blog ‘where they indulge their passion for fashion, beauty, travel, lifestyle and creative inspirations’.
