KELBIN LEI GOES #GUCCIGRAM
Local Designer Invited to Join Gucci Art Project ‘Tian’
Fashion powerhouse Gucci have invited local stylist and designer Kelbin Lei to contribute to their new #guccigram art project as part of their new SS16 collection, ‘Tian.’ This is the second version of Gucci’s art initiative and the first to feature a Vietnamese participant who joins artists, designers and creatives from Korea, Indonesia, Japan and throughout the region.
Inspired by ancient Chinese bird and flower art, ‘Tian’ takes this 10th century aesthetic and turns it on its head. Working with a collection of young creatives from Asia, Gucci has created a “remix” of this old-world style, whilst still retaining its roots in the region.
Gucci describe Kelbin’s contribution to #guccigram as “strangely symmetrical portraits that fracture the Tian pattern as if seen through a kaleidoscope, also bringing to mind Gucci’s earlier caleido print.”
It’s a major project for Lei and a great opportunity to work with such an established and respected brand.
