Lee Sung-Kyung Featured In W Magazine USA
The ‘Weightlifting Fairy’ is Korea’s Answer to Gigi Hadid
Own up K-Drama fans, we know you know who Lee Sung Kyung is. Having just this year graced our screens in the title role of hit coming-of-age television drama, ‘Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo’, (inspiring who knows how many copycat ‘bob-crop’ hairstyles in the process) the multi-talented Lee’s fame has skyrocketed over the last few years.
Already followed on Instagram by ten percent of her home country’s population (the former model has over 5.5million followers), it’s a level of adoration that puts her on par with the likes of Gigi Hadid, who she’s being compared to this month by W magazine. Featured in an editorial spread that hit news stands in the US last week, her interview delves into what W describe as Lee’s ‘Cinderella’ story - cast in Korean director Kim Kyu-tae’s 2014 television series ‘It’s Okay That’s Love’, after his daughter showed him her feed.
Looking to make the transition into big budget films in 2017, we think her relative anonymity outside of Seoul is about to become a thing of the past - not that she isn’t already used to it. “Being in the public eye, you never really have time to yourself,” she tells W, “Even when you’re alone, you feel that everyone is watching you and you can’t ever get away.”
We’re sure she’s going to be fine. Check out the pics from her W shoot below:
