Marc Jacobs Exclusive Collaboration With Vans
Less than 200 pairs to go on sale Friday in NY and Japan
Iconic sneaker brand Vans has teamed-up with British designer Mark Jacobs to produce a pair of exclusive shoes that will go on sale in the US and Japan on Friday. The design features abstract fine black lines across Vans’ classic white pump for a simple but chic look perfect for the start of the summer.
To celebrate the collaboration, Jacobs invited 17 artists he has previously worked with to customise a pair of the new shoes, including model Jazzelle Zanaughtti, manicurist Jin Soon Choi, and New York artist and former Ru Paul’s Drag Race contestant Milk.
The collection also includes designs from Japanese artists Saian Nishikata, DJ Yuka Mizuhara and painter Toru Kamei.
Each artist used a range of different materials, from sewing pins, to nails, to 3D flowers to paint, textiles and marker pens to create a unique and eye catching pair of sneakers.
Unfortunately these designs will not hit stores, and less than 200 pairs of Jacobs’ original design will go on sale from Friday (16 June) in New York and Tokyo. They will come with a set of Marc Jacobs Sharpie pens to allow for more customisation.
Vans will also be doing an online giveaway of one of the customised sneaks, reportedly the heavily painted pair featuring teeth and a monster's eye pimped up by British artist Julie Verhoeven.
