Meet The Muse: Cha Mi
We shot the face of Vietnam International Fashion Week and we liked it
Cha Mi first came into our lives when she made the Top 4 on Vietnam’s Next Top Model in 2013. Since then, she’s caught the attention of the global fashion elite, her understated beauty in demand by editors of some of the world’s biggest publications, along with a host of international designers - famously strutting the catwalks of Milan in Italy.
Discovered from the obscurity of her parent’s village in the North, where she sold vegetables and struggled to make ends meet for her family, Cha Mi is now one of Vietnam’s most famous model exports, becoming the face of Vietnam International Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer Show in Ho Chi Minh City this year.
In between her international assignments, we shot the Phu Tho born model in our studio, and asked her about guilty pleasures, Instagram obsessions and her biggest fashion mistake. For the record, it also turns out she’s a sucker for Korean movies, loves getting out for a good run, and can easily be spotted at a certain eatery on Vo Van Tan street.
My guilty pleasure is... playfully biting my boyfriend!
Something not many people know about me is... I’m kind of a quiet person, even though my family and friends would disagree!
The funniest rumour I have read about myself is... that I had plastic surgery.
My style icon is... Marilyn Monroe.
My favourite designer is... Alexander Wang.
If I wasn’t modelling and acting, I would... open up an affordable restaurant for people with low incomes.
My Instagram obsession is... Liu Wen (@liuwenlw) and a bunch of local and global fashion mags.
The first album I bought was... when I was 15, I heard a song by a singer named Thuy Chi at school. I fell so in love with it that I spent my lunch money for the whole week to buy her album!
My go-to karaoke song is... ‘Scream’ by Usher.
My workout of choice is... running and yoga.
My ideal escape is... anywhere as long as I’m alone. I love my solitude.
My go-to accessory is... handbags.
The stores I adore are... Mango, Charles & Keith, Zara, Topshop, H&M,...shall I list a few more?
My signature fragrance is... Hypnotic Poison by Dior.
My proudest moment is... being myself without regrets, of course!
My all-time favourite movie is… “Miracle in Cell No.7”, a Korean movie that I’ve watched three times.
The biggest fashion mistake I’ve made was... dressing scruffy to a runway show casting. Never again.
One thing that scares me is… losing the people I love the most one day.
My drink of choice is... boba tea, no doubt!
My last meal would be... a seafood plate with every type of fish my heart desires!
TV shows I’m currently watching are... The Face US and Running Man.
The last book I read is... ‘Happiness Now’ by Andrew Matthews.
My favourite restaurant is... Nam Dinh restaurant on Vo Van Tan street. It’s a family-owned restaurant that’s pure comfort food for me. Whenever I miss my hometown or prepare to leave Vietnam for a job, I just go there and eat a lot.
Finish this sentence: “It’s never too late to… learn something new.”
