NGUYEN CONG TRI TEASES NEW COLLECTION FOR TOKYO FASHION WEEK
Designer Takes Inspiration from Saigon’s Flower Sellers
Pioneering Vietnamese designer Cong Tri will unveil his latest haute couture collection at Tokyo Fashion Week next week. Returning to the place where he made his debut as the first Vietnamese designer to show last year, Tri has drawn direct inspiration from the flower sellers he sees on the streets of his hometown of Ho Chi Minh City.
‘When I see the flower sellers,” he said, “I’m mesmerized by the image of a mobile garden of blooming colors behind their backs. It’s a delicate beauty that makes me temporarily forget about the concrete ugliness of the city. The women usually wear oversized old shirts that shield them from the sun, and I saw in those garments an inspiration for my upcoming collection.’’
His designs will hit the runway at 4pm on March 21 at Shibuya Hikarie Hall A. Cong Tri is a member of the Asian Couture Federation and was recently named in the Top 100 contemporary fashion designers in the world. Model Thanh Hang (seen in these images below) will close his show.
