AD+Studio’s Artful Backyard House
Phu Nhuan townhouse reimagined by architects
The challenge for the architects at AD+Studio was how to breathe life into a Phu Nhuan townhouse overlooked by taller neighbours in a light-restricted alley.
The design firm responded by cleverly renovating the 240m2 building by moving the central atrium from the centre to the side. This has helped the light to shine in while increasing this four-floor Phu Nhuan residence’s natural ventilation.
The redesigned townhouse, home to a family of six, places communal spaces like the kitchen in a central position. While upstairs the staircase winds around and up to the roof where a lotus pond diffuses light downwards.
Besides the major architectural changes, AD+Studio also make typically intelligent use of traditional materials like wood and metal to give the townhouse a timeless look.
And you can take a look at the radical renovation below.
