GET INSIDE: BELGO - THE BELGIAN CRAFT BEER BREWERY
Worship At The Altar of Great Food and Beer
There’s a reason Belgian beer has had a reputation around the world since the middle ages - that's how old some of it is! It's called Trappist beer, it's delicious and is still brewed by Trappist monks in only 11 monastic breweries globally - more than half of which are in Belgium. At Belgo, you can drink it, and while it's a must for anyone who even likes beer, it's not the only thing this new location has to offer. MD and owner Gauthier Lagasse wants his place to be much more than a brewhouse, more like 'a slice of Belgian culture’.
It makes sense then that he would inlude the country's absurdist sense of humor in Belgo's spacious two-storey design. Combined with cultural artefacts from a country often overlooked for its' near neighbours, as well as a bit of the surreal (directly inspired by artist René Magritte), we think Belgo’s contemporary, church-like space could be the perfect altar from which to worship the country's great food and beer. Walking around the lofty location will certainly take you on a journey, one that includes a range of authentic Belgian beer brands you may know, and the chance to delve into the gastronomic ouevre of this European force.
Far from being for beer-lovers only, Belgo quite simply offers an authentic experience in the city. We recommend you go there, see the high ceilings, discover the art, feel the atmosphere and treat your taste buds to a glass or two of one of their classic brews, paired up with anything from their deliciously morish food menu.
Welcome to the city Belgo! We're glad to have you on-board.
Vibes: High ceilings, arty quirks, contemporary feels and European treats.
The Brew: Full range of Belgian Classics, Premium bottled Trappist Ales, Home Made Belgian Craft and everything in-between.
Flavours: We loved the cheese croquettes and ‘Saigon’ Flammekueche (hot flat bread).
Best time to go: When you’re hungry, thirsty or just after work.
