Japanese City Teases ‘Spamusement Park’
1 Million Views To Make Spa Themed Amusement Park A Reality
Remember the thrill of riding your local ferris wheel or roller-coaster? Now think of that experience again, only this time replace the hard plastic chairs you sat on with a spa bath. Fun? Or more than just a little concerning? Either way, that’s what the mayor of Japan’s Beppu City, Mr. Yasuhiro Nagano, is promising - the world’s first ‘spamusement park’, which in his own words, will become a reality if the video below reaches 1 million views.
At the time of writing it had already reached just over 2.1 million, so while the man in question was saying that ‘work had begun’, we’re prepared to put our own modesty on the line, and run naked down Nguyen Hue if this actually becomes a reality.
“We are still discussing safety issues, for example, whether we could actually run hot water inside a roller coaster,” a spokesperson for Beppu’s tourism department told The Japan Times. You just thought of that? “But the rides will be something fun,” they say. O-kay.
Obviously we smell a publicity stunt here, that or Mr. Nagano has severely underestimated the internet’s thirst for semi-naked humans in uncomfortable positions. Go figure.
