Michelle Obama Coming To Cambodia
First Lady Follows Husband To Country To Promote ‘Let Girl’s Learn’
It’s a first lady’s duty to follow her man. And Michelle Obama’s taking that so seriously she’s coming all the way to Cambodia this Friday.
Her husband, Barack Obama, paid his visit in 2012 — the first ever by a US President. But Phnom Penh’s residents’ early excitement at the news turned to consternation in the Cambodian capital as Obama’s intense security back-up blocked roads the whole day.
Now Michelle’s visiting, and it can’t be on her husband’s recommendation either. His meeting with Cambodian Premier, Hun Sen, ended with ‘a brisk handshake and little warmth’ according to the Huffington Post.
It’s another big deal though — the first time a serving President’s wife has made the trip there — although Jackie Kennedy arrived for a visit in ‘67, four years after husband John’s assassination.
And there’s even good news for the country’s capital-residents as this visit will be to Siem Reap. There Mrs. Obama will meet high school students to press the importance of a good education for girls.
