Return of a Legend: The Nokia 3310 Gets A Relaunch
And yes, it has Snake.
The ‘indestructible candy bar’ is back. Just about everyone’s first mobile phone (unless you were an early 90’s “yuppie” who carried around a brick and strapped a ‘pager’ to your hip), has been relaunched.
Representing an ‘update’ of a classic, at its low key announcement at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week, HMD Global CEO Arto Nummela - that’s the company now producing them since parent company Nokia went bust - confirmed that the ‘new’ version has the three things that made the 3310 famous to begin with; the battery lasts a month, it comes with that insidious Nokia ringtone and, yes, it has Snake. Also included this time around is a web browser, a 2mega-pixel camera and a hilariously small screen by modern standards.
As you might guess, the company is hoping the 3310 will stage a ‘devolution’ of sorts, by being a second mobile for those who want to undergo some ‘digital detox’ without being completely disconnected. The 3310 exists for you to text like it’s 1999, take phone calls when you have to, and play Snake like you never have before - in colour! It will retail in supermarkets for US$51. Viva Le Devolution!
