Project ‘Here and There’ Has Vietnamese Stories To Tell
Collaborative storytelling project launches
‘Here and There’ has some stories to tell. The project uses digital media to join the dots between the shared experiences of the Vietnamese post-war diaspora.
The media is community generated, which means community participants record their own first-hand accounts. They are supported by their younger relatives, who act as community facilitators. This split perspective between re-teller and recorder, and their facilitator, is crucial to the dynamic of this project.
The community facilitators receive a week training to help them support the filmmaking process, and to guide their relative to professionally put together a final product that will form a small part of the whole vision. Then it will be upped to the project’s website which will act as virtual exhibition space, and a host to further contributions.
And what better way to kick off the project than with a kick-ass party? It’s something project co-ordinator Linh Phan knows a bit about, as the founder of the much-loved DIY-indie-electro-sleazy-discopunk Electric Kicks dance parties last seen at Piu Piu. Besides music, at the Rogue Saigon hosted event on Thursday 13th July, there’ll be presentations, some screenings and a few giveaways.
