SINGLE MALT SUCCESS
Ly Club’s 'Legacy V' Event Celebrates Good Whisky
Last week AnyArena shared in the success of some of the city’s biggest and best-known venue owners, who were invited to the multi-sensory ‘Legacy V’ whisky-mentoring event at Ly Club in District 1.
Sampling five original super-premium single malts, with the guidance of whisky mentor Darren Hosie, one of the other hosts of the event was celebrated master blender Colin Scott. A native of the Orkney Islands, at the northern tip of Scotland, (from whence all good whisky comes) he spoke to AnyArena on the night.
“Vietnam loves single malt whisky” he said, “this country has embraced it right from the beginning. It’s been a phenomenal achievement for the industry here, and to be at this event is an honour. These people have made it happen.”
Asked about the technical aspects of creating successful malt blends over the last forty years, Colin stressed that it was never about equal volume, but more about individual characteristics.
“It’s like a quintet of musical instruments playing in harmony” he said, “they’ve all got their own strengths, but they have to play as a team to win. That’s what we’re doing as blenders; bringing those flavours together to create a rich, harmonious, smooth, luxurious taste.”
