‘The LOG’ A Taste Of The Gem Center’s Culinary Crown
A Look Inside Saigon’s Decadently Decorated Lodge
There’s no more romantic feeling than just you and yours being holed up in a hillside lodge, real fire blazing, somewhere deep in the Alps.
Honestly though, your chances of snuggling up surrounded by snow in Saigon, even with the iniquities of global warming, are low to zero.
We have some good news however. Our very own Alpine lookout, The LOG, is so authentic it even has two huge moose heads peering out over this city’s longest wooden bar.
Its decadently dimmed lighting and inside or outside dining mean there’s definitely going to be a corner to make that business meeting go marvellously, to kick back with your closest friends in casual comfort, or to whisper sweet things to your chosen one.
The two house bands’ songbooks are suitably sensuous, and perfectly pitched at just the right level that they soundtrack your chat without interfering with your hearing.
And for eats you can opt for one of our city’s best stocked buffets — and serve your partner with seductive selections from the seafood section, like king prawns or crab.
Or make a choice from the dizzyingly diverse à la carte options that globetrot confidently from succulent imported craft steaks with customisable sides and sauces like the homemade spicy, or Porto wine, to perfectly flavoured pan-Asian, like the frog’s leg curry — a colonial castaway that balances a rich coconut sauce with regional spices.
Throughout, fine-tuned flavours are delivered with eye-catching flair — the oyster ceviche looks like a gallery installation, served on an underlit icebox, and the coffee coconut ice cream sits smouldering above a cooling glass cauldron of dry ice.
Added to that, The Log boasts one of Saigon’s finest wine lists, selected from the upstairs cellar by the entranceway. The by-the-glass Chilean ‘Ona’ is as decadently oakey and as opulent as the all-wood interior design.
And so, with all that taken in, it’s appropriate that The Log has taken over the top floor of the new Saigon event space, the GEM Center, like a jewelled, regally rustic wooden crown.
