Seasonal fashion show makes Sense

It is not often that you see four seasons in one day in tropical Saigon, but those attending ‘Sense’ fashion show last Sunday, August 21st were treated to exactly that sight. The show – directed by model Xuan Lan - saw the city’s beautiful people flock to the Intercontinental Hotel for an occasion that featured four talented Vietnamese designers with four very different themes.

Hồng Quế - Mai Phương Thúy

Đàm Vĩnh Hưng - Lương Mạnh Hải

Diễm My - Đỗ Mạnh Cường

Xuân Lan - Hồng Nhung - Đỗ Mạnh Cường

Thu Hằng - Phương Nga - Hoàng Hải

Entitled "Touch" the show took guests on a seasonal journey, beginning with Spring and Kelly Bùi’s playfully draped chiffon and silk creations with delicate lace details. Her romantic yet eccentric collection told the tale of the perfectly colour blocked princess that lived happily ever after with her pink velvet suited prince.

Truong Thanh Long then presented his summer collection, ‘Skin’, which certainly showed a lot of the models skin. An incredibly tactile collection, Hai experimented with a diverse range of materials and styles. Dramatic gold studded leather creations battled with elegant sculptural floral pieces, resulting in a Dr Jykell and Mr Hyde vibe.

It was an enchanting Autumn as Hoang Hai presented his collection titled ‘Autumn Forest’. Glamourous embellished gowns showcased his renowned skill as couturier. The collection was very theatrical, while some pieces shone for their intricate embellishing work, others could possibly have benefited from more simplistic detailing.

Last but not least was the legendary Cong Tri’s with his tribute to winter, entitled ‘N. 03-2011'. Bridging the gap between fashion and art, his highly sculptural collection received instant praise from the audience. Featuring natural shapes, textures and colours, this innovative collection conveyed aesthetics from the past and present with a futuristic twist.
