New show brings Vietnam history to life for tourists.jpg)
Vietnam’s rich and fascinating history takes centre stage at Ho Chi Minh City’s Opera House this month as a new cultural show for tourists makes its debut.
‘The Soul of Vietnam’ aims to avoid the pitfalls of many shows of its type by presenting the history of the country in a way that educates and entertains foreign visitors to the country while steering clear of cliché.
The 60-minute show, produces by Me Kong Artists Company, is divided into three distinct parts. The first is a depiction of Hai Ba Trung (the Trung sisters) riding their two elephants to fight against Chinese rule; the second is a guided musical tour of the country by an actor playing ‘Moon Boy’, a popular character in Vietnamese folk literature; the third and final part will celebrate Saigonese culture.

A not-insignificant sum of VND500million has been invested in the show, which is scheduled to run every month on the 15th and 23rd, and its promoters are confident that the song and dance spectacular will strike a chord with visitors and pique their interest in the country as a whole.
“There are few shows for tourists in Vietnam and as a result many tourists have no idea where to go during their trips in the country,” said Linh Huyen, director of Me Kong Artists.
The company plans to organize more shows at Kim Chau Theater, located at 15-17 Nguyen Thai Binh Street, District 1, HCMC, in the future.
Tickets, ranging from VND80,000 toVND 250,000, are available at HCMC Opera House, 7 Lam Son Square, Dist. 1.
