Elle Spring Summer 2012 Fashion Show

Fashionistas Spend the Night at the Zoo

Elle Magazine's Bi-Annual Fashion Show has only been running for 2 years now and has managed to become one of the most industry-respected events in the annual fashion calendar. Last Sunday the 8th of April, Elle Magazine celebrated summertime with their Spring/Summer 2012 Show, featuring collections by 4 of Vietnam’s most renowned designers. This year Elle ventured away from the notorious 5-Star Hotel circuit and set up camp in the lush tropical grounds of the Saigon Zoo.

Hundreds of the city's fashion elite poured into a massive 40m tent, that housed a sleek minimal catwalk setup, a backdrop reminiscent of NY Fashion Week in Byrant Park. The front row was reserved for VIP fashionistas eager to get the best view of models like Thanh Hằng, Hà Anh Vủ and Hoàng Yến, strutting down the catwalk wearing designs by Do Manh Cuong, Nhu Duong, Adrian Anh Tuan and Devon Nguyen.

Do Manh Cuong opened showcasing his love for all things lace, set to a palette of his signature colours: black, white and red. While lace dominated his collection and his inclusion of masculine coats, high-waisted skirts and anorak shouldered dresses reflected an affection for the 1950’s.

Nhu Duong's
collection was all about clean lines and graphic natural prints. Notable pieces from this range were the cropped shoulder mini dresses, ultra cool cargo pants and the reverse mullet dress (Fabric longer at the front of the dress). Overall a very fresh collection that show that simple symmetric/asymmetric lines don't have to be Xanadu-tacky and that less - as cliché as it sounds – is sometimes more

Adrian Anh Tuan
took the ‘you can never have enough accessories’ route - where more, surprisingly equals even more. There wasn’t a body part that was spared metallic gold neck pieces, chunky bangles, necklaces, large earrings and the odd handbag. Adrian certainly had the Midas touch when designing this range, as every look featured at least one element of gold. The collection transformed the models from Milanese well to housewives to rock stars as they sashayed down the catwalk to Lana Del Ray. Kudos to Adrian for getting in on the "Peplum" top trend.

Devon Nguyen closed the show with an explosion colorful graphic prints on simple silhouettes. Her collection seemed to take inspiration from the London designer Mary Katrantzou, with similar graphics and cuts. Devon's designs reflected the baroque architecture featured in the graphics with rigid shapes and unique geometric cuts. Standouts from the collection were the sculpted mini dresses with bold prints (which Devon also wore on the night).

We're looking forward to the Autumn/Winter 2012 show in a couple of months.
