Google Art Project
Virtually visit the world’s top museums.jpg)
Is there anything Google can’t do? After shifting how we think about search engines, maps and books, the tech uber-company has now turned its attention to the world of art. For its Art Project, Google partnered with acclaimed galleries and museums from around the globe, bringing thousands of the world’s most celebrated artworks to your screen.

Using Google’s street view technology, the site allows you wander the corridors of Florence’s Uffizi Gallery, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, London’s Tate Britain, Madrid’s Museo Reina Sofia, St. Petersburg’s State Hermitage Museum – even the Palace of Versailles.

You can zoom in on hundreds of works to incredible levels, allowing you to inspect every brushstroke or find hidden details. The museums provide descriptions, audio tours and YouTube videos giving more details about the artist and the work. You can also play curator, saving artworks to create your own collection, a kind of “greatest hits” pulling from the world’s best museums. Very cool.
