Everyone loves a good gossip, so the new entertainment website Octopus, that details the inner workings of the nation’s celebrity culture, is certain to get tongues a-wagging in the months ahead.
Registration for the website, which goes by the name of Octopus Central, is simple. For the cost of a text message or a short phone call users can keep up to date with of all the latest chat and conjecture on everything from pop icon Ho Ngoc Ha’s boyfriends to singer Lam Truong’s supposedly broken marriage.
Top stars to have been interviewed for the site include singers Hoang Thuy Linh, Dinh Manh Ninh and Quynh Nga, and actress La Thanh Huyen.
The website isn’t all just one-way either. An interactive element allows users to post questions about a celebrity’s private life online, or via text or phone. It remains to be seen, however, just how open the stars will be to answering more intrusive queries.
In truth, the website is far from risqué with most of the information pertaining to style and beauty tips and life advice.
Despite its relatively tame content, however, not everyone is happy about the site.Hanoi pop star Minh Quang said: “When they want to use any information about our private lives, they have to have permission,” he said. “We have the right to decide what goes public and what stays private.”
