New Pizzeria shares a slice of the profits with creative customers

CONCEPTUALLY simple and easy to dish out among friends, pizza is a famously egalitarian creation. And this ‘caring is sharing’ ethos is being taken one step further at a new Saigon pizzeria where customers are invited to help evolve the menu in return for a stake in the restaurant’s profits.

Since opening just four months ago, Pizza 4P’s has become a word of mouth success story among the city’s pizza-loving fraternity. A chic but casual interior gives it a sophisticated ambience and its extensive but well-chosen wine list is up there with the best in town. Its wood-fired pizzas, home-made mozzarella, and host of both Italian and Japanese fusion toppings, meanwhile, are a reflection of owner Yosuke Masuko’s passion for traditional Neapolitan pizzas and his Tokyo roots.

Incredibly, given its tender age and the stiff competition, the restaurant is already rated as the best Saigon by the influential website Trip Advisor, making Yosuke’s plan to share the love even more appealing. The intention is novel yet simple. Each month customers will be invited to come up with their own pizza creations and post them on the restaurant’s Facebook page. These will then be voted for online with the winner announced at monthly ‘selection parties’ at the restaurant.

The winning pizza will then be placed on the menu with its mastermind entitled to a 4% share of the monthly profits on his/her item. Says Yosuke of the idea: “We want to create a social restaurant with a community feel. This is a fun idea but we are serious about having our customers aid our evolution as a restaurant.”
