Love is in the air

It’s said that love is elusive but one photographer is capturing it on film in all its glory. The 28 year old Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, who goes by the name of Liebehuman has recently returned to Saigon, after an eight year stint in Germany and he is now using his international skills and style to create some of Vietnam’s most beautiful wedding portfolios.

Liebehuman creates images that express the individual nature of each couple’s love and ceremony while allowing the beauty of natural light and the surroundings to shine through. Much of his work is almost documentary in style and barely a detail escapes his skilled attention. AnyArena.com recently sat down with Liebehuman and chatted about skills, inspiration and how he shares the love through his amazing photos.

How would you describe your style of wedding photography?

My concept for wedding images is that they should be simply that: wedding images. They should show the happiest moments of the bride and the groom. Any ideas should be relevant to the lives of the couple and reflect precious moments. For example I’ve shot couples in the cinemas at Diamond Plaza, in the old French restaurant at the Continental Hotel and even walking their dogs.

What is the most challenging aspect of this genre?

Getting couples to act naturally as if they are alone. It’s challenging to make them feel I’m just someone passing by, like an invisible person.

Where do you find inspiration?

Inspiration usually comes when I go shopping. New ideas flash through my mind when I see nice things or anything that is appropriate to the spirit of a wedding photo set. I’m already preparing properties for future weddings though I don’t know who the photos will belong to. I’m still waiting for the right couple.

What is your favorite subject to photograph?

I really like to photograph people who have strong personalities. They’re good at showing their personal self in front of my lenses.

You’ve traveled to four continents for on photographic assignments, so far where has been your favorite place to shoot ?

I like Italy the most. There are many different elements converging in Italy like culture, history, people, nature, landscape and cuisine. For me it’s a splendid place.

How would you describe the photography industry globally at the moment?  What about the industry in Vietnam?

To be honest, the photography industry itself is the same everywhere. The only difference lies in the awareness of Vietnamese people and foreigners. Different lifestyles and culture have a great impact on our thoughts and our photos.

How does this difference affect photographers?

International photographers are often trained methodically from the way they shoot, choose the lights to the way they retouch the photos. Especially retouching is an essential step in photography. In Vietnam people might have a thorough grasp of this or that but not many of us are trained professionally to master the whole process.

Do you have any advice for amateur photographers out there?

I think new photographers should learn from international photographers, then you will think more openly. What I found is that international wedding photographs always aim to capture the most natural and nicest moments of the bride and groom. That’s something we can’t achieve by setting up the scene. In Vietnam we often focus on the faces of the couples but forget the details like the wedding bouquets, rings, shoes and gowns.
