SAIGON’S Opera House has played host to some glittering occasions through the years. The grand old building proved a fitting venue for a piece of Vietnamese fashion history as clothing brand Gap marked its entrance into the country in glamorous style with an extravagant media preview.

The American chain is one of the world’s most famous high street brands with outlets in 33 countries across the globe. Its first store in Vietnam will open in the Vincom Centre in October, with further stores to open at Crescent Mall and Diamond Plaza later in the year, Saigon’s fashion conscious are about to get well acquainted with the popular brand.

Gap is known for its simple yet stylish ethos with an emphasis on denim and classic casual apparel. Yet there was plenty of pizzazz about the launch on Sunday, August 29, as models, DJs and members of the media mingled in the building’s entrance hall. With charming waitresses passing round plates of delicious nibbles and keeping the glasses of Moet topped up, the mood at the launch was predictably festive.

The evening’s events were hosted by supermodel Ha Anh Vu in both English and Vietnamese and guests were treated to a fascinating video history of the company’s rise from its humble roots in San Francisco to its modern-day prominence.Following the video, models from Vietnam and overseas provided a lively end to a memorable evening by showcasing items from the brand’s new collections.
