Hi-tech 4-D theatre opens in Hanoi

With cinema technology improving all the time, the lines between reality and what happens on the silver screen are getting increasingly blurred.

And film lovers in Hanoi now have the chance to experience this brave new world in its most hi-tech form after the most advanced 4-D theatre in Vietnam was unveiled in the Capital.

The screen, at the National Cinema Center, opened on October 20th becoming the third 4-D cinema in Vietnam. The others are at the Kim Dong theatre in Hanoi and the Suoi Tien theme park in Ho Chi Minh City.

At total of over US$1.4 million was invested in the 35-seat theatre, which incorporates a 49-square metre screen and 7.1 sound system installed by experts from the US.

The real kicker for those who like their cinema-going experience to be memorable for more than just the movie is the physical effects in the theatre, which include rain, wind, strobe lights, vibration, water sprays and air jets.

Nguyen Danh Duong, director of the National Cinema Centre, said the theatre’s physical effects are the strongest in the country. He also pledged to import new 4-D films from overseas every six months to attract local audiences and tourists.
