LA Pacific Film Fest Accepting Entries

Vietnam may be rather low on opportunities for filmmakers to demonstrate their talent, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t outlets for these visual skills elsewhere. One such opportunity lies across the Pacific in Los Angeles where one of the world’s most influential Asian film festivals is accepting entries for next year’s event.

Established in 1983 by Visual Communications, the premier Asian Pacific American media arts centre, the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival has presented more than 3,000 films and videos by Asian, Pacific Islander and Asian Pacific American artists. As well as featuring a feast of celluloid treats, the festival also features seminars, panels, guest appearances and filmmaker awards.

The list of auteurs featured at the festival through the years makes for impressive reading. Notable entrants include Ang Lee, the director of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Brokeback Mountain, and award-winning Vietnamese-Americans Doan Hoang and Timothy Linh Bui.

Submissions are now being accepted for next year’s festival, which is slated for May 10-19. The deadline for entries is December 9, but you’ll save some money by submitting by the early deadline of November 10.

For more information on guidelines, eligible works and how to submit your film go to the Visual Communications website.
