The Hunger Games

New teen sci-fi blockbuster

What happens when you cross 1984 with Battle Royale and American Idol? Answer: a youth-skewed sci-fi blockbuster which might yet to fill the Harry shaped hole in our tween pop culture hearts. Based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel of the same name, The Hunger Games seems an adequate competitor to other blockbuster franchise based on ridiculously successful YA fiction novel. And not a shirtless supernatural being in sight!

Helmed by American director Gary Ross (Pleasantville, Seabiscuit), Hunger depicts a post-apocalyptic America where teens are forced to compete in a last man standing death match called the Hunger Games. The good points? Jennifer Lawrence revisits the stoic, wise beyond her years persona perfected in Winter's Bone (but with less meth and more spear throwing). The bad? Woody Harrelson's wig. It's unspeakably bad and seems poised to float away at any moment. Definitely more pros than cons at this stage. Watch below...

The Hunger Games being released in the US on March 23, 2012. Will keep you posted on Vietnam release date.
