VMODE Fashion Show

Innovative Student fashion show
Student runway shows are a chance to see innovative work from the next generation of designers. On April 23, The VMODE Academy of Fashion/Art/Management held its first-ever fashion show to present designs from its first-year students. The collection, showed at the Ho Chi Minh Exhibition and Display House, was called “Noir Rose and Gracieux Dame.” Key design inspirations included the elegance of Angelina Jolie’s character in the film “The Tourist,” and the colour black, which, for the designers, represented the power and mystery of women.

Guests on the red carpet munched on hors d’oevres and sipped cocktails as they checked out the design sketches lining the walls of the entry hall. The show itself opened with an asymmetrical ball gown layered with ruffles, followed by several variations on the black cocktail dress in fabrics ranging from sheer silk to imitation leather. The mood lightened in the second half, with high-waisted pants, silk shirts and a standout white silk gown touching on “The Tourist” theme.

Fashion lovers weren’t the only ones benefitting. Three of the dresses were auctioned off to raise money for victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, netting 75 million VND.
