Hanoi’s Quest Fest Is On The Horizon
One of the biggest alternative gatherings in Asia gears up for third annual production
Three years ago, a group of 250 mavericks armed with a sound system went out into the backwoods of Hanoi and proceeded to trip the light fantastic under the cover of looming trees. What started out simply as a party in the forest has mutated and emerged as one of the premiere festivals this continent has to offer. Quest Fest is a departure from the restrictive. Even the classification of a music festival is too prohibitive of a description. For those in need of a definition, the three-day escape is a progressive experience dedicated to discovery.
This year, running November 4-6th, event organizers have promised to up the ante with increasing the capacity of attendees and creative exploits. Over 150 of the very best in local and international musical acts will perform across four stages. Luxembourg-based ‘Say Yes Dog,’ sensory tsunami ‘IPHAZE’, the gang from Detroit ‘Windstar Soul,’ and master of psytrance ‘Liquid Ross’ are some of the names announced in the first wave of performers. To augment the experience, festival goers can flit between a number of recreational happenings such as workshops, street performances, team activities, pop-up installation art, and much more. Rated one of the most scenic festivals in the world, 2016’s theme calls forth the folklore surrounding the mythological battle between gods that transpired across the site some eons ago. With the Dong Mo Lake encircling the Son Tinh campgrounds, seclusion is one of the many elements of the affair that certifies a good time away from prying eyes.
