Interview: VM5 to ‘Explode’ in Saigon
Japanese ‘Dance-Rock’ Quartet To Play Yoko Cafe This Sunday
As part of a month filled with awesome, original events, this Sunday night Japanese electro-rockers VM5 will play their first ever show in Saigon at Yoko. Including Vietnam on their three date Asia 2017 tour, which includes Taiwan tonight and Cambodia on Saturday, we checked them out and couldn’t resist finding out more. With the help of an interpreter, and somewhere between Tokyo and Taipei, the guys happily obliged. Here’s our quick chat with VM5!
Hello VM5! We can’t wait to see your show this Sunday at Yoko. You look like a psychedelic version of the Asian Blues Brothers. Who are your style icons?
Thank you, that sounds nice. We’re looking forward to playing there too. We love kinda old school fashion, like 50's jazz, 60's mods and 70's punks.
What’s with the masks? Are you in trouble with the law?
Haha. You’re so funny. We wear masks to be your Mickey Mouse.
Err, ok...How would you describe your sound?
Our sound is kinda rock music meets dance beats.
Great. Your shows look very high energy, with lots of jumps and kicks on stage. Can you recommend some training for this?
Lots of beers, tobacco and watching Ramones' DVDs.
Very cool guys. Vietnam has great food, but there are alot of Japanese restaurants here too. Is there anything you wanna eat when you get here?
This is our first visit, so we don't know, but we do wanna have a Banh Mi sandwich. That looks delicious!
I’m sure we can arrange that. Back to the music, you say your live show is an ‘explosion’. Is it safe to come? What should we wear?
No no, not safe. Take care. Rock 'n Roll is the devil's music. Once you are into it, you can't get out. But don’t worry, the only explosion will occur inside of your body.
Haha. We can’t wait. Who inspires you every day?
All the people we meet inspire us. You are one of those. We, humankind are something like that.
Thanks! Finally, what can we expect from Sunday night and is there anything else you would like to say to your fans?
Hi there, we are VM5. Thank you for your support. We have one great thing in common; music. So let's feel the music together. Let's dance together. Let's rock the world together!! Looking forward to seeing you at Yoko. Thank you!
VM5 will play at Yoko Cafe (22 Nguyen Thi Dieu, D.3), Sunday March 26 with support from Hem Hem Saigon, Gen and DJ Slowbirds.
