Listen: April’s V-Indie Music of the Month
Escape the run-of-the-mill
We all have that day. The day when you O.D on overwrought ballads and serenading pop puffery, delivering you a gut-roiling jolt of wince as you go about your business.
Call it a side effect from the torrent of accidental fantasy, followed by fatal breakups and suicidal tendencies everywhere, infiltrating your ears from sidewalk cafes to supermarkets, and subconsciously impacting your emotionally-heightened purchase decisions. We know that you yearn for an escape, and the raw beauty of indie. No more overtly corny lines please, nor over-the-top sentimentality. Give us truth, and a story we can believe in.
If today is that day for you, we’ve come to answer your prayers. This month’s serve of local indie goodness includes everything from deep, melancholy acoustic to chill R&B, from indie wave riders in both Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
For fans, Soundcloud still proves a treasure trove of self-composed songs by indie talents, and on the frontline are Kien, Thai Dinh, Uyenkulele, Trang, Luc Huy with Ngu (composed by Hai Sam), trio PKL (of Thom from JGKiD, Khoa from KraziNoyze, Long from EmceeL), and newcomer Huy Le. Now press play, sit back and enjoy!
'Ngủ (Chill Version)' - Lục Huy
'Chúc Ngủ Ngon' - Tam Ka PKL
'Một Ngày Mùa Thu' – Thái Đinh, NamKun
'Bụi Hoa Giấy' - Trang
'Con Chim Sâu (demo)' - Kiên
'Lại Một Ngày' - Uyênkulele
'Làm Mèo' - Huy Lê
