Emcee K Releases Debut Album ‘Love Shit'
Check The Rapper’s New Nine-Track Album About Love And Life In The Big City
In September last year we tipped Nguyen Viet Hung to be our new hip hop hero. Now the rapper better known as Emcee K has dropped his debut. And it’s called ‘Love Shit’.
Put together by underground producer Nguyen Hong Giang it repays all the faith we had in him. “It took time and each track arrived separately, but Giang gave me space to do this my own way, and some invaluable advice throughout the process,” explains Emcee K.
The album leans heavily on the West coast. But Emcee K always has. Close your eyes, swap Saigon for Compton, and you’ll hear Tupac, Snoop and Nate Dogg in the rapper’s no-nonsense bars. For proof, just flash back to last year’s Jase Nguyen produced ‘Random Ranting’ with Emcee K and sidekick Khao Wzzzy kicking it Cali-style on a tennis court.

He kept the tennis look for the MTV-Cribs-in-a-Thao-Dien-villa video for album track ‘Roll With Me’. But on ‘Love Shit’ you’ll even find the MC getting all sentimental. Like on opener ‘Beautiful Memory’ and on ‘Love Letter’ which loops guitars then drops a big pop chorus. “To me, this track is special because it’s a love story told from a 3rd person point of view,” Emcee K says, “All of the sounds and even the artwork for this song bring back personal memories that I hold very dear to me.”
It’s the sound of a rapper not getting swallowed up by this big city too. “Saigon can overwhelm as easily as it can enrich, but I take it as a chance to learn about myself,” Emcee K says. “You’ll hear me working through life’s ups and downs in my lyrics. When you reach the end of one road, you merely merge onto the next path,” the rapper adds finally about an album on which he finds his voice.
